There are thousands of campaigns, charities, issues and petitions circling all over the web and asking for your support each day. That can be overwhelming. Instead of constantly bombarding you with numerous requests each day, I will select one issue periodically that is worthy of your support. I will research and vet the issue before it is posted so that you can be sure the facts are both accurate and in context.
Your 30 Second Contribution - How It Works And Why It Matters
Along with each issue I will also include a link to a petition, pre-written email, or other "action" in support of that cause. These "actions" are specifically designed so that you can communicate your support of a cause even if you are short on time. You will frequently be asked to give your name, address and zip code. Rest assured that your personal information will not be shared, published, or sold. Such information is required in order to validate your name. This validation prevents people from signing petitions or letters multiple times under different names, and lends credibility to the communications. And finally, if you are skeptical that signing a petition or emailing a pre-written letter can make a difference, just think back to the recent petition against the $5 ATM fee that Bank of America planned to implement. The consumer backlash, communicated to Bank of America by a petition originated on Change.org, was signed by 300,000 people. This action persuaded Bank of America to drop the fee. Progress, Not Politics
It's important to emphasize that this blog and the causes presented herein are issue based, not politically based. I make an effort to choose causes that promote values most Americans agree upon; protecting Constitutional rights and values, advocating for just laws and processes, preserving the environment and our natural resources, working towards energy independence, promoting a strong economy, etc. That it is not to say that you will agree with every cause presented on this blog. However, I hope you will find that even though you might disagree with an issue on occasion, generally you will find value in this blog and agree with a majority of the issues. Should you find that is not the case, feel free to leave a comment about the types of issues you would like to see presented. I am always open to suggestions.
Now, let's get back to advocating!
